I have a weakness for cute little boxes, so as soon as I spotted this one on Pinterest, I HAD to make it.  This sweet box not only has an unusual shape, it closes on its own without any adhesive, staples, etc. Amazingly, it is made from a single sheet of 8-1/2″ x 6″ cardstock; the secret is in the scoring.

Keren Howell, a UK Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, featured the box on her blog along with an instructional video and a PDF diagram. I did make one out of some castoff cardstock before I attempted to use my beautiful Birthday Bash DSP, though.  If you download the diagram before you watch the video, the instructions make more sense (or they did to me).  It takes very little DSP to decorate, too–just two squares (3-3/4″ each) that you cut diagonally to end up with two triangles and four half triangles. It may sound confusing, but watching the video will clarify the instructions.

The tag is from the Oh My Goodies stamp set. I stamped it once in Coastal Cabana and again in black Memento ink. The stamp coordinates perfectly with the Deco Label Framelits (smallest one) and the Large (1- 3/4″ x 7/8″) Oval Punch. After I punched out the greeting, I popped it on with a SU Dimensional.

I embellished the box with a “Bitty Butterfly” punched from Gold Foil DSP. Three tiny pearls form the butterfly’s body.

As you can see in the photo, I punched holes in the top to run the ribbon through. SU’s Seam Binding Ribbon is so soft that it goes through the small holes easily without creasing and makes great bows.

This box coordinates with the birthday card pictured below that I wrote about recently. A handmade card and a precious box filled with Godiva Truffles: who wouldn’t love to receive this duo on their birthday?

Thanks for stopping by and have a Happy day even if it isn’t your birthday!
